Kara Murukku/Spicy Murukku/Chakli/Rice Flour Spicy Spiral Crisps:
Murukku is a savoury, crunchy Indian snack. The snack originated in the Tamil Nadu state, and its name derives from the Tamil word for “twisted” (Tamil: முறுக்கு), which refers to its shape. Murukku is popular all over India, and also in other countries where Tamil diaspora is present: Singapore,Malaysia and Srilanka
Murukku is typically made from rice flour and urad dal flour. It is sometimes called “chakli”; Chakli is a similar dish, typically made with an additional ingredient, Bengal gram (chickpea) flour. In Tamil Nad, Chakli also called as Mullu Murukku or Butter Murukku .
It is very easy to prepare because i used all the store bought flour for this recipe. In earlier days, people use to soak it and grind it to make murukku dough. Still people use to follow that, but they grind all the rice and urad dal in the mill where the machine is common for everyone. During Diwali/Deepavali season they grind in big quantity and store the dry flour in their homes for 5-6 months. I am very happy to share this recipe to you all. Lets get started
