Colorful Creamy Curd Rice (Yogurt Rice/Thayir Sadam):

Curd rice ( Tamil: தயிர் சோறு, Kannada: ಮೊಸರು-ಅನ್ನ (mosaru-anna), Telugu: పెరుగు అన్నం, Malayalam : Thayiru) also called yogurt rice is a dish of India. The word “curd” in India usually refers to unsweetened yogurt(Plain Yogurt). It is very popular in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

Introduction:

Ingredients:

  1. 3/4 Cup Rice (cook the rice in a boiling water and filter the rest of the rice starch)
  2. 2 tbs. Curd/Plain Yogurt (Whole)
  3. 2-3 tsp. Milk
  4. Salt to Taste
  5. 2 tsp. Oil
  6. 1 tsp. Mustard Seeds
  7. 1/2 tsp. Urad Dal/White Lentils
  8. 2-3 pinches of Asafoetida
  9. Freshly Chopped Ginger (1 inch) or Organic Ginger Powder
  10. 1 String Curry Leaves
  11. 1 Small Onion Finely Chopped (10-12 shallots finely chopped)
  12. Shredded Carrots
  13. Tomato (Remove the Seeds) Finely Chopped
  14. Finely Chopped Cilantro

Steps:

Tips:

  • Add some pomegranate seeds and also grape cuts to the thayir/yogurt/curd sadam before serving.
