Potato and Green Peas Coconut Curry / urulaikizhangu pattani paal curry:

Potatoes: Potatoes provide the body with an essential sources of fuel and energy, which you need even when dieting. We should eat complex carbohydrates such as potatoes, rather than simple carbohydrates like sugar and biscuits which give a short energy boost followed by hunger-pangs. Potatoes can help you reduce binge-eating.

Dry Green Peas: Dry Peas are rich in fiber content, they have cholesterol lowering-facts. Dried Peas helps to maintain blood-sugar levels. Dried Peas are good source of Iron. It also helps in lowering risk of heart-disease. The isoflavones presents in dried peas prevents the health conditions like prostate and breast cancer. Dried Peas are rich in Magnesium and potassium and also helps to main blood pressure.

½ cup Dried Peas (Soaked Overnight)

Potatoes 2 Medium Size (Roughly Chopped)

Add the above ingredients into the pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistle (whistle count may vary from cooker to cooker). Once done, keep it aside.

To Grind:

2 Inch Fresh Ginger

2 Garlic Cloves

¼ cup Coconut (Fresh / Shredded)

1 tsp. Fennel Seeds

For Seasoning:

1 tsp. Oil

½ Medium Size Red Onion / 8 Shallot Onion Chopped Finely

5 Curry Leaves

½ tsp. Fennel Seeds


  1. In a frying pan, add oil followed by fennel seeds, onion, curry leaves and once the onion is cooked; drop the cooked potatoes and dried peas straight into it and stir.
  2. Then add the ground items and add required salt and water.
  3. Cook for 3-4 minutes and Stir occasionally.
  4. Serve Hot with Sambar Rice.


Do not overcook the coconut mixture.
